The fragrance of this spicy essential oil is reminiscent of the festive season, warm and comforting. Native to Sri Lanka and now grown throughout India and Asia, the Cinnamon tree is one of the oldest recorded spices in the world. In the practice of aromatherapy Cinnamon can be used in preparations for both body and mind, however it is important to note that the oil must be used with caution as it can cause irritation to the skin if used without care. Blended with other festive essential oils such as Orange and Clove, Cinnamon will create a cossetting fragrance for the home, both cheering and relaxing. Used in treatments being applied to the skin, Cinnamon can act as an anti-viral and anti-fungal, helping to keep infections at bay. It has also been linked helping ease digestion when applied topically to the stomach. Due to the potential risks caused by improper use, Cinnamon essential oil should only be used by professional Aromatherapists. Due to its Safrole content it may be a skin irritant. Due to its Eugenol content, it is also not advisable to use this essential oil with people who are taking anti-coagulant medication, or where liver or kidney function is compromised.
